Autograph receipt signed, one page, 6,25 x 2,25 inch - affixed to a slightly larger sheet, Ferney (France), 11.02.1770, in French, receipt about a partial payment of debt for the Duke of Wuertemberg*, written and signed in black ink "Voltaire", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a portrait picture of Voltaire (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with browning, mild creasing, and mild signs of age wear - in fine condition.

"I received from Monsieur Rose, seven thousand pounds for the quarter due on the last of December 1769 of my life annuity on Montbeliard: made at the castle of Ferney 11 February 1770.

* Charles Eugene (German: Carl Eugen; 1728-1793), Duke of Württemberg, and count of Montbeliard, notoriously in debt, borrowed a considerable sum from Voltaire. When the Duke was unable to repay him, he had to offer him his castle of Montbeliard instead. When Voltaire died in 1778, Charles Eugene had still not settled his debts.
