"All the elements of Cuban society, and the honor that must prevent Cubans, by word or deed, from failing those who die for them, thus, in the name of the homeland, and placing before it and before its free ability, the constitution of the identical work of two generations, together sign the declaration, through the shared responsibility of their representation, and as a show of the unity and solidity of the Cuban Revolution, the Delegate of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, created to organize and assist the current war, and the Commander-in-Chief elected by all the active members of the Liberation Army."
* The Manifesto of Montecristi is the official document of the Revolutionary Party in Cuba; it was written by Jose Marti and signed by himself and Maximo Gomez on March 25, 1895 in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. In this document, Jose Marti exposed the causes that lead Cuba to fight against Spain to become an independent nation, free from economic or military control by any outside source. The `Manifesto of Montecristi` also clarifies that the war of liberation was not against Spain itself, but against the colonial regime that existed on the island for more than three centuries. Martí returned to Cuba two months after the present document was written, and was killed in battle against Spanish troops only a month after.
