"Dear Pavone, please order the following from Walker Stationery: [...] A total of 5 dozen and send them to Torre del Lago.
-----------------------
The Butterfly is a success and I'm happy - as it should be - and I firmly believe that the opera will work like La Bohème, you'll see. What a shame that I couldn't go to London this year. I would have loved to go.
Farewell, dear blood of the Madonna,
My greetings to Scotti, Denza, Tosti. I'm going to Acqui [Terme] for my leg. I will stay there for a fortnight, then Torre [del Lago] and finally Abetone.
Affectionately, - G. Puccini""
* Cosimo Pavone, a friend of Puccini's, worked as an agent for the music publishing company Ricordi. Pavone did the composer a multitude of services (as illustrated by the present letter).
