Further Information on the person
Profession:
(1894-1972, Edward) King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth, and Emperor of India, from 20 January to 11 December 1936 & (1896-1986, Wallis) American socialite and the wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor.
Year of Birth: 1894
Edward VIII, also known as Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor, was born on June 23, 1894, in Richmond, Surrey, England. He was the eldest son of King George V and Queen Mary, and he was next in line for the throne after his father.
Edward's early life was one of privilege and luxury, as he was raised in royal palaces and attended prestigious schools. He served in the British military during World War I and later embarked on a diplomatic tour of the British Empire.
In 1936, Edward ascended to the throne after the death of his father. However, his reign was short-lived as he abdicated the throne that same year in order to marry Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee. The abdication crisis was a major event in British history and led to his younger brother, George VI, becoming king.
Following his abdication, Edward was given the title of Duke of Windsor and lived in exile with Wallis Simpson. The couple traveled extensively and lived a relatively quiet life outside of the royal spotlight.
Edward VIII passed away on May 28, 1972, in Paris, France. Despite his controversial decisions and actions during his lifetime, he is remembered as a complex and enigmatic figure in British history.
Edward VIII's legacy continues to be the subject of fascination and debate among historians and royal watchers alike.
