Further Information on the person
Profession:
( - ) Spaceflight that landed the first humans, Americans Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin, on the Moon on July 20, 1969
Year of Birth: 1969
On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 made history by successfully landing humans on the moon. The crew consisted of astronauts Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin. Armstrong, as the mission commander, was the first to step onto the lunar surface, famously declaring, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Before the mission, NASA conducted several test flights to ensure the spacecraft's capabilities. Apollo 11 launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 16, 1969, aboard a Saturn V rocket. The journey to the moon took around four days, during which the crew performed various tasks and experiments.
Upon reaching the moon, Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the surface in the lunar module, while Collins remained in orbit aboard the command module. The landing was a tense moment as Armstrong had to manually steer the module to avoid rough terrain.
After spending approximately two and a half hours conducting experiments and collecting samples, Armstrong and Aldrin returned to the command module. They then successfully reunited with Collins and began their journey back to Earth. The crew safely splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on July 24, 1969, marking the end of the historic mission.
Apollo 11's successful mission inspired a new era of space exploration and remains a significant milestone in human history. Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins are remembered as heroes who achieved the seemingly impossible dream of landing on the moon.
