Autograph letter signed, one page, 6 x 8 inch, (Beckenried - Switzerland), 9.09.1921, in French, to editor Emile Paul - Rolland demands copy of `Poète Tragique, portrait de Prospéro`* by Suarès, written and signed in blue ink "Romain Rolland", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a photograph, shows Romain Rolland in a chest-up portrait (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with a central horizontal mailing fold and mild glue remnants to the upper left corner - in fine to very fine condition. Accompanied by the original envelope.

Je vous ai écrit, il y a quelques jours, pour vous prier de m`inscrire comme souscripteur à un exemplaire de votre édition de Poète Tragique par Suarès. Je vous demandais de m`expédier cet exemplaire à Villeneuve (Vaud), Hôtel Byron, vers 20 septembre.
Comme il est possible que je ne sois pas encore à Villeneuve, à cette date, je vais donner des instructions, à l`hotel Byron pour le paiement de l`envoi, quand il arrivera. Voulez-vous avoir l`obligeance de me faire savoir quel est le prix du livre (exemplaire sur vélin). Prière de me répondre à Genève, poste restante, rue Stand.

** Romain Rolland stayed in Villeneuve in the Villa Olga from 1922 to 1938. There he was home to several important players in the intellectual life of the time, including Stefan Zweig, Rabindranath Tagore, Gandhi, Aragon and André Gide.
