Graham Hill was a British racing driver who competed in Formula One, touring car, and sports car racing. He is the only driver to have won the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which consists of winning the Formula One World Championship, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and Indianapolis 500. Hill is also the only driver to have won two Formula One World Championships and the Indianapolis 500 in the same year, which he did in 1968.
Hill was born in Hampstead, London, in 1929. He was educated at both preparatory schools and the University of London. He began his racing career in 1951, competing in Formula Three. He quickly moved up to Formula Two and then Formula One. Hill was a member of the Vanwall team in Formula One, winning the 1958 Grand Prix, and the BRM team, winning the 1962 and 1968 championships.
Hill also competed in sports car racing and touring car racing, and in 1966 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He also raced in the Indianapolis 500, finishing second in 1966 and winning the race in 1972. In 1968, he became the only driver to win the Formula One World Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the Indianapolis 500 in the same year.
Hill was known for his skill as a driver and his ability to stay calm under pressure. He was also known for his ability to set up a car for a race. He was also an accomplished team manager and mentor, helping to nurture the careers of up-and-coming drivers such as Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Niki Lauda.
Hill was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 1993. He was also made an Officer of the British Empire in 1989. He died in a plane crash in 1975 at the age of 45.
