Letter signed, two pages (both sides), 5,5 x 8,25 inch, Capri, 23.10.[1907], in French, to Gino Righini - concerning his work `La Prison`*, signed by Maxim Gorky in black ink, with scattered mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition.

"[...] A propos de `La Prison`, que vous voulez publier, je vous demande de vous adresser à M. Ivan Ladyschniroff [...] car c’est luiqui est mon représentant en Europe - moi-même je ne saurais pas vous dire si les droits de ce récit ne sont pas réservé (sic) pour quelqu’un ici en Italie. [...] je vous promets de vous envoyer [...] un petit article, non publié nulle part encore, pour votre journal [...]"

* * `La Prison`(`In Prison`) was a collection of short stories. Maxim Gorky was imprisoned several times (in 1901 and 1905) for his political stances, particularly during the 1905 Revolution. He left Russia and traveled to the United States to raise funds for the Bolshevik movement. Upon his return in 1906, he was forced into exile in Capri for both medical and police reasons.
