(1879 - 1976) English artist and book illustrator - he was known especially for his illustrations of anthropomorphic characters in The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame and Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne

"... I have been partially laid out with a vile cold ... Mustard baths, my dear ... hot whiskey at night. I had to venture out & go to the Cattle show at Islington yesterday (for Punch) and saw a lot of fine beasts ..."
