Description
An astonishing pair of official formal vintage presentation photographs signed, showing Emperor Hirohito and Empress Kojun (Nagako) in a formal, dignified pose, (2x) about 6 x 8.5 inch - magnificently displayed in its original leather presentation frames (with stand) which has a gilt chrysanthemum crest in the top border (each about 8 x 10.5 inch), both signed in Japanese characters in bold black ink, the frames with small areas of surface abrasion (particularly along the upper edge), while the portrait surfaces remain generally clean - in fine to very fine condition. This incredibly scarce and exclusive gem is usually barely available to the collecting public.
Acquired directly from Raphael Chevalier, with seller-stated provenance from a Swedish diplomat who worked in Tokyo in the 1980s.
