Autograph letter signed, four pages (on two conjoined sheets), 5,25 x 8,25 inch, `Ministère de l'Instruction Publique et des Beaux-Arts [...]` stationery, Paris, 22.10.1916 (WW I dated), in French, to "Cher monsieur et ami" - Paul-Henri-Benjamin Balluet d`Estournelles aks him to sing at a funeral ceremony*, written and signed in black ink "P. d`Estournelles de Constant", with mild signs of age wear - in fine to very fine condition.
In parts:
"Cher monsieur et ami,
voulez-vous me permettre de vous rappeler l`aimable promesse que vous m`avez faite de prêter votre concours à la cérémonie funèbre [...] Cette cérémonie a lieu le 2 novembre (jour du morte) après midi à la Sorbonne.
Je vous demanderai de chanter:
L`Hymne à la gloire [...]"
Translated:
"Dear sir and friend,
would you allow me to remind you of the kind promise you made to me to lend your assistance to the funeral ceremony [...] This ceremony takes place on November 2 (Dead Day) in the afternoon at the Sorbonne.
I will ask you to sing:
The Hymn to the Glory [...]"
* At this important funeral ceremony, the 'Hommage aux morts pour la patrie' ('Homage to those who died for the fatherland'), Paul-Henri-Benjamin Balluet d'Estournelles gave a speech.
