Description

Autograph letter signed, two pages (both sides), 8 x 10 inch, 1.11.1908, in French, to his friend the musician Paul Dugas - Saint-Saens writes about a misfortune befalling a cousin's daughter and mentions the princely wedding in Cannes and the German Emperor's latest faux pas, written and signed in black ink "C. Saint-Saens", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a picture of Camille Saint-Saens (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds, and very mild signs of age wear - in fine to very fine condition.

"Mon cher Paul

Translated:
"My dear Paul, yesterday upon returning home I found a note from one of my cousins informing me that his little girl was in critical condition, and the misfortune of this poor child made me forget everything; I left immediately to go and comfort her and was horrifically overwhelmed when I finally got home at 9 o'clock in the evening, when I discovered that you had, as they say, broken your nose; I had enrolled you, this wouldn't have happened without this catastrophe. Will you come back on Thursday? I will be dropped off in the morning and I will tell you all the stories of Cannes and the Princely wedding.”
I'm sorry about yesterday, first for you, then for myself [illegible] and the good times I would have spent there, now relegated to the basket of irreparable mistakes, along with the latest blunder by the German emperor.
   To you - C. Saint-Saëns"
