Biography (AI generated)

Stephen Peter Marriott was an English musician, songwriter, and frontman of two notable rock and roll bands, Small Faces and later Humble Pie. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 as a member of Small Faces.

Marriott was born on 30 January 1947 in Bow, London. He was the son of Kay and Bill Marriott, and grew up in nearby Manor Park. He was the youngest of three siblings, and his father worked in the family business as a fruit and vegetable wholesaler. As a child, he took an early interest in music, and was particularly influenced by American rock and roll and blues. He learned to play the guitar and harmonica, and soon began to write his own songs.

At the age of 15, he joined the band The Moments, and in 1965 he founded the Small Faces with Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston. The band quickly rose to fame in the UK, and released several successful albums, including 'Ogden's Nut Gone Flake', which topped the UK album chart in 1968. They also had several hit singles, including 'Itchycoo Park', 'Lazy Sunday', and 'Tin Soldier'.

In 1969, Marriott left the Small Faces and formed the more blues-influenced Humble Pie with guitarist Peter Frampton. The band released several successful albums, including 'Rock On' in 1971 and 'Smokin' in 1972. They were also known for their energetic live performances, and their song '30 Days in the Hole' became one of their signature songs.

In 1975, Marriott left Humble Pie and embarked on a solo career. His first solo album, 'Marriott', was released in 1976, and was followed by 'High Tide and Green Grass' in 1979. He was also involved in the musical production of 'The Who's Tommy' in 1979. During the 1980s, he performed with various bands, including The Packet of Three and The Law.

Marriott tragically died in a house fire in 1991, at the age of 44. His legacy as a musician and songwriter has continued to be celebrated in the decades since his death, and in 2012 he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Small Faces.
