Saxon is a legendary British heavy metal band that was formed in 1976 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The band was originally known as Son of a Bitch and played covers of popular rock songs. They soon gained a loyal following and decided to change their name to Saxon in 1978.

Under the leadership of vocalist Biff Byford, Saxon rose to prominence in the late 1970s and 1980s as one of the leading bands of the new wave of British heavy metal. Their hard-hitting sound, combined with catchy melodies and intense live performances, made them a favorite among metal fans.

Saxon's self-titled debut album was released in 1979 and the band quickly gained success with the singles "Stallions of the Highway" and "Big Teaser". They followed up with the release of their second album, "Wheels of Steel", in 1980, which featured their signature song "Motorcycle Man". The album reached number five on the UK Albums Chart.

Throughout the 1980s, Saxon released several successful albums, including "Strong Arm of the Law" (1980), "Denim and Leather" (1981), and "Crusader" (1984). They toured extensively and played alongside iconic bands like Motörhead, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden.

Despite numerous lineup changes and a decline in mainstream popularity in the 1990s, Saxon continued to release albums and tour worldwide. They experienced a resurgence in the early 2000s with the release of "Killing Ground" (2001) and "Lionheart" (2004), which were well received by both critics and fans.

Today, Saxon is still actively recording and touring, and they remain a significant influence on the heavy metal genre. With over 40 years in the music industry, Saxon continues to deliver their signature sound and energy to crowds all around the world.
