Mother Teresa, born as Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu on August 26, 1910, in Skopje, now the capital of North Macedonia, was a Catholic nun and missionary. She dedicated her life to serving the poor and destitute around the world, earning herself the title of "Saint of the Gutters."

At the age of 18, Mother Teresa left her home and traveled to Ireland to join the Sisters of Loreto. She took her vows as a nun in 1931, choosing the name Teresa after St. Thérèse of Lisieux.

In 1946, Mother Teresa received what she believed was a call from God to leave the convent and help the poor on the streets of Calcutta, India. She started the Missionaries of Charity and began her work in the slums, providing food, shelter, and medical care to those in need.

Over the years, Mother Teresa expanded her work to over 130 countries, establishing homes for the sick, dying, and destitute. Her selfless dedication to serving others earned her numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, but her legacy lives on through the Missionaries of Charity, which continues to provide comfort and care to the poor and needy worldwide.
