Yashin helped Dynamo Moscow win five Soviet Top League titles, three Soviet Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1963. He was also an integral part of the Soviet National Team, which won the 1956 Olympic Gold Medal and the 1960 European Championship. Yashin was awarded the Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour for his services to Soviet football.

Yashin was known for his acrobatic saves and his ability to make stunning reflex stops. He was also praised for his calmness under pressure and his willingness to take risks.
