Mai 1947 wurde er (nach seiner Verlegung) von einem britischen Militärgericht in Mestre bei Venedig wegen Kenntnis und Duldung von Geisel-Erschießungen sowie seiner Befehle zur `Bandenbekämpfung` nach 57 Verhandlungstagen zum Tod durch Erschießen verurteilt, im Juli jedoch zu lebenslanger Haft begnadigt und nach Werl in ein Militärgefängnis verlegt.
