Winifred Wagner, born Winifred Marjorie Williams, was an English-born socialite, patron of the arts, and the second wife of German composer Richard Wagner. She was born in Hastings, England in 1897, the daughter of Charles Williams, a lawyer. She was educated in England and Germany, and went on to become a successful businesswoman. Winifred was an influential figure in the artistic and political circles of Germany in the early 20th century, and was a strong supporter of the Nazi party.

Winifred first met Richard Wagner in 1914, when she was 17. He was impressed by her beauty and intelligence and they began a relationship. Winifred married Richard in 1920, and they had three children together. She quickly became an integral part of the Wagner family, taking over the responsibility of managing the family estate, Bayreuth, and the running of the Wagner Festival. She was widely praised for her work, and was seen by many as the "saviour" of the festival.

Winifred was an ardent supporter of the Nazi party, and she was very close to Adolf Hitler, who was a frequent visitor to Bayreuth. She was rewarded for her support of the Nazis by being made a member of the Nazi organization, the Order of the German Eagle, in 1938. She was also active in promoting antisemitic policies, and was known to be hostile to Jewish opera singers, refusing to hire them for the Bayreuth Festival.

Winifred was arrested by the Allies in 1945, and briefly held in prison for her role in supporting the Nazi regime. She was eventually released, and returned to Bayreuth, where she continued to manage the Wagner Festival until her death in 1980. Her support for the Nazis has been a source of controversy, and has tarnished her legacy as a patron of the arts.
