Stanislaw I Leszczynski

Autograph letter signed, one page, 7,25 x 9 inch, Luneville, 1.12.1750, in French, to a gentleman whom he thanked profusely for a work, written and signed in dark ink "Stanislas Rey", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a picture, shows Stanislaw I Leszczynski in a beautiful chest-up portrait (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds, browning, a few small pinholes, and scattered mild signs of wear to the edges - in fine condition.

Translated:

"I could tell you about the beauty of this piece. You must be judged after having received the general applause from all over France. I hope you will agree with mine no less despite the preference you must give to the greatest geniuses in Europe. You will harden mine by the special esteem that I have for your merit and it suffices to recognize it and to be delighted with it. To be able to judge your works, whose perfection leaves no room for the most rigorous criticism to reduce the price, there is the flattery to enhance it, while any competition has to do justice to your supreme talents [...]"
