Ronald Koeman is a retired Dutch professional football player and current manager. He was born on March 21, 1963, in Zaandam, Netherlands. Known as one of the greatest defenders of his generation, Koeman had a successful and illustrious career both at the club and international level.

Koeman began his football journey at his hometown club, FC Groningen, before moving to Eredivisie giants Ajax in 1983. He quickly established himself as a reliable and versatile defender, capable of playing at center-back or right-back. During his four-year spell at Ajax, he won three league titles, a Dutch Cup, and the UEFA Cup in 1987.

In 1989, Koeman transferred to PSV Eindhoven, where he experienced further success. He played a pivotal role in helping PSV win three consecutive Eredivisie titles from 1986 to 1989. Koeman also formed a formidable defensive partnership with Eric Gerets, and together they performed exceptionally well in the 1987-88 European Cup, which PSV clinched after defeating Benfica in a penalty shootout.

Koeman's impressive performances in the Netherlands did not go unnoticed by top European clubs. In 1992, he joined Barcelona, where he played a crucial role in Johan Cruyff's legendary Dream Team. He captained Barcelona to four consecutive La Liga titles and played a vital role in the club's first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph in 1992, scoring a memorable free-kick goal in the final against Sampdoria.

After retiring as a player, Koeman transitioned into a managerial role. He has managed various clubs, including Ajax, Benfica, Valencia, and Everton. In recent years, Koeman has taken on the role of the coach for the Netherlands national team, leading them to success in the UEFA Nations League and qualifying for the postponed UEFA Euro 2020.
