Rick Nelson was an iconic American singer, songwriter, and actor. He began his recording career in the 1950s with his parents, Ozzie and Harriet. He became one of the biggest teen idols of the 1950s and starred in over 40 movies and television shows. He was also a pioneer in the Rock and Roll genre, releasing over 50 albums and charting over 30 singles on the Billboard Top 40.

Nelson was born in Teaneck, New Jersey in 1940. His parents were both entertainers and his mother was a radio singer. At the age of 8, Nelson made his television debut on his parent's show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. He began playing guitar and writing songs early on. He learned to play the guitar at the age of 10 and soon began writing his own songs. He was soon appearing regularly on his parent's show, which ran from 1952 to 1966.

At the age of 17, Nelson had his first Billboard Top 10 hit with “I’m Walkin’.” From 1957 to 1960, he had a string of Top 10 hits, including “A Teenager’s Romance,” “Be-Bop Baby,” and “Poor Little Fool.” He became a teen idol and was featured on the cover of many teen magazines. In 1959, he starred in the movie Rio Bravo with John Wayne. He continued to star in films throughout the 1960s.

In the 1960s, Nelson began to focus more on his music career. He released over 50 albums, including his signature song “Garden Party.” He was a pioneer in the Rock and Roll genre, with songs like “Hello Mary Lou” and “Travelin’ Man.” He also had several Top 40 hits, such as “It’s Late” and “Fools Rush In.” In 1975, he scored his first and only number one hit with “Garden Party.”

Nelson’s career slowed down in the 1980s, but he continued to tour and record music. In 1986, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 1995, he died in a plane crash while on a tour in Texas. He was 55 years old. He was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.
