Chagall's work was highly influenced by his Jewish heritage and his experiences living in both Russia and France. He often depicted Jewish themes and folklore in his paintings, creating a sense of nostalgia and whimsy in his art.
During World War II, Chagall fled to the United States where he continued to paint and exhibit his work. He returned to France in 1948 and settled in the village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence, where he lived and worked until his death in 1985.
