Johnny Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. His birth name was J.R. Cash, but he was known by his stage name, Johnny Cash. He was the fourth of seven children born to Ray and Carrie Cash. Johnny Cash had a tumultuous childhood, growing up in poverty and suffering from emotional issues that plagued him throughout his life.
Cash's music career began in 1954 when he moved to Memphis, Tennessee and signed a record deal with Sun Records. Cash became a major star, and his style of music, which was a combination of country, folk, and rockabilly, was dubbed "The Man In Black". His songs were characterized by his deep, rich baritone voice, and his lyrics, which often dealt with issues of social justice and mortality.
Throughout his career, Cash released dozens of albums and singles, including chart-topping hits such as "Ring of Fire" and "A Boy Named Sue". He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980, and he won 11 Grammy Awards during his lifetime.
In addition to his music career, Cash was an actor, appearing in several films, including "The Pride of Jesse Hallam" in 1981 and "The Last Days of Frank and Jesse James" in 1986. He also wrote several books, including "Man in Black" in 1975 and "Cash: The Autobiography" in 1997.
