Shimon Peres was an Israeli statesman, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, and a former Prime Minister of Israel. He served in various ministerial positions before becoming Prime Minister in 1984. Peres was instrumental in the Oslo Peace Accords, which led to the creation of the Palestinian Authority. He was also an advocate of social justice, and worked to promote economic development in Israel. Peres was a member of the Knesset from 1977 to 2007, and was elected President of Israel in 2007. He passed away in 2016.
Ehud Olmert was the Prime Minister of Israel from 2006 to 2009. Olmert was a Cabinet Minister in the governments of Yitzhak Rabin, Ariel Sharon, and Ehud Barak, and was mayor of Jerusalem from 1993 to 2003. Olmert was instrumental in the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War and the 2008-9 Gaza War. He was also an advocate for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and worked to improve Israel's relations with the international community.
Chaim Herzog was the sixth President of Israel from 1983 to 1993. Herzog was also a former Israel Defense Forces Major General, and served as Israel's ambassador to the United Nations from 1975 to 1978. He was a strong supporter of Israel's security, and was a staunch advocate of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Herzog was a winner of the Israel Prize in 1988.
Teddy Kollek was the mayor of Jerusalem from 1965 to 1993. He was instrumental in the development of Jerusalem's modern infrastructure, and was a strong advocate of coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians. He was also a founder of the Jerusalem Foundation, which works to promote social and economic development in Jerusalem. Kollek was awarded the Israel Prize in 1977.
Tzipi Livni is an Israeli politician and former Foreign Minister of Israel. She is a strong advocate for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and was instrumental in the negotiations for the 2008-9 Gaza War. Livni is a former leader of the Kadima party, and has been a member of the Knesset since 1999. She was awarded the Israel Prize in 2016.
Menachem Begin was the sixth Prime Minister of Israel, serving from 1977 to 1983. Begin was a leader of the right-wing Likud party, and was a staunch advocate of a Greater Israel. He was also instrumental in the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty, and signed the Camp David Accords with then-Egyptian president Anwar Sadat. Begin was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1978.
