Signed card - with blind-embossed federal eagle, 3,25 x 4,25 inch, 1954, signed and dated by Haile Selassie I in blue ink, attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Selassie in a half length portrait in uniform (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with browning and surface abrasions to the upper corners (signature unaffected) - in fine condition.

Haile Selassie I, born as Tafari Makonnen on July 23, 1892, was an Ethiopian emperor and a prominent figure in African history. He was known for his efforts to modernize Ethiopia and for his strong stance against colonialism.
Haile Selassie I became emperor in 1930, following the death of his predecessor. He was the last emperor of Ethiopia, ruling for over four decades until he was deposed in a coup in 1974.
During his reign, Haile Selassie I implemented numerous reforms to improve the infrastructure and education system in Ethiopia. He also played a key role in establishing the Organization of African Unity, a precursor to the African Union.
Haile Selassie I was a staunch advocate for Pan-Africanism and was revered as a symbol of African unity and independence. He was also a devout follower of the Rastafarian religion, which considers him to be the earthly representation of God.
Despite his efforts to modernize Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I faced criticism for his authoritarian rule and alleged human rights abuses. His reign came to an end in 1974 when he was overthrown by Marxist revolutionaries.
Haile Selassie I passed away on August 27, 1975, under mysterious circumstances. His legacy as a champion of African sovereignty and unity continues to endure, and he remains a revered figure in Ethiopian history.
