Letter signed, one page, 8,5 x 5 inch (lower half folded), Sanssouci (Potsdam), 19.07.1852*, in German, to the German orientalist Ernst Heinrich Meier (1813-1866) - Frederick William IV thanks his correspondent for two poems translated into German, signed in black ink "Friedrich Wilhelm R", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a portrait picture of Frederick William IV (altogether 11,75 x 16,5 inch), with intersecting letter folds, and mild foxing to the edges - in fine condition.
"Ich habe die beiden von Ihnen in das Deutsche übertragenen Gedichte empfangen und nicht unterlassen wollen, Sie Meines verbindlichen Dankes hierdurch zu versichern. Sans Souci den 19. Juli 1852."
Translated:
"I have received the two poems you have translated into German and I would not fail to assure you of my sincere thanks. Sans Souci, July 19, 1852."
* In the same year, the second volume (Kalisada: Sakuntala) of Meier's work `Die klassischen Dichtungen der Inder` ('The Classical Poetry of the Indians') was published.
