(1836-1907) Baltic German surgeon. He was the first physician to introduce heat sterilisation of surgical instruments and is known as a pioneer of aseptic surgery.
Autograph note signed, one page - on his personal visiting card, 4,5 x 3,5 inch, in German, to a colleague - concerning knee suffering of a patient, written and signed in dark ink, attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with the original envelope and a photograph, shows Ernst von Bergmann in a beautiful chest-up portrait (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with mild signs of wear - in nearly very fine condition.
"H. H. College!
Patientin wird Ihnen selbst die Geschichte ihres Knieleidens erzählen. Ich meine daß Bad. u. Näßungen helfen muß."
The patient herself will tell you the story of her knee suffering. I think that bathing and wetting must help."
