Daniel Radcliffe is an English actor best known for his role as Harry Potter in the film series of the same name. Born on 23 July 1989 in West London, he started his acting career at the age of 10, when he was cast in the first Harry Potter film in 2001. Since then, he has gone on to star in numerous other films, including The Woman in Black (2012), Kill Your Darlings (2013), Victor Frankenstein (2015), and Now You See Me 2 (2016).
Radcliffe's parents, Alan George Radcliffe and Marcia Jeannine Gresham, are both literary agents. He has an older sister, named Lucie, and a younger sister, named Charlotte. Radcliffe attended Sussex House School in London before moving to The City of London School for his secondary education. At the age of 16, he achieved A-levels in English, Art, and History.
Radcliffe made his stage debut in 2007, playing the lead role of Alan Strang in a revival of Peter Shaffer's play Equus at the Gielgud Theatre in London. The play was met with critical and commercial success, and Radcliffe was praised for his performance. He then went on to star in the Broadway production of Equus in 2008, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Radcliffe's other stage credits include How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (2011), The Cripple of Inishmaan (2013), and Privacy (2016).
Since completing the Harry Potter film series in 2011, Radcliffe has gone on to star in a number of independent and mainstream films. He made his romantic lead debut in The Woman in Black, and starred in the dark comedy Horns (2013). In 2015, Radcliffe starred in the supernatural horror film Victor Frankenstein, and in 2016, he had a cameo in Now You See Me 2. In 2018, Radcliffe starred in the action comedy Guns Akimbo, and the romantic drama Escape from Pretoria.
Radcliffe is also an avid supporter of several charities, including the Trevor Project, which works to prevent suicides among LGBT youth. He is also a patron of the UK charity Demelza Hospice Care for Children, and is a supporter of the International Rescue Committee. He is an advocate for gender equality, and has spoken out against homophobia, racism, and bullying.
Radcliffe has been praised for his versatility as an actor, and is widely considered to be one of the most successful British film actors of his generation. He continues to challenge himself by taking on a wide variety of roles in film, stage, and television, and is sure to remain a prominent figure in the entertainment industry for years to come.
