Roxette was a Swedish pop rock duo, consisting of Marie Fredriksson (vocals and keyboards) and Per Gessle (vocals and guitar). Formed in 1986, the duo became international stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their albums Look Sharp! (1988) and Joyride (1991). Their third album, Tourism (1992), became just as successful as its predecessors. Other hits included "It Must Have Been Love", "Listen to Your Heart", "The Look", "Dangerous", "Fading Like a Flower", "Spending My Time" and "Almost Unreal".

Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle had been friends since the late 1970s, when they met at a concert. They soon began working together, first as a duo and then as a full band. In 1984, they released their debut album, Pearls of Passion. It was a moderate success, reaching the top fifty in Sweden. Despite this, the duo were dropped from their record label.

In 1986, Roxette signed with EMI Sweden and released their second album, Look Sharp! The album was a huge success, reaching the top ten in various countries. The lead single, "The Look", became an international hit, reaching number one in 25 countries. This was followed by the singles "Dressed for Success", "Listen to Your Heart" and "Dangerous". The album sold over five million copies.

Roxette's third album, Joyride, was released in 1991. It was an even bigger success than Look Sharp!, selling over eight million copies. The lead single, "Joyride", reached number one in several countries and was followed by the singles "Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave)", "Spending My Time" and "Church of Your Heart". The album also featured the hit single "It Must Have Been Love", which was featured in the film Pretty Woman.

Roxette's fourth album, Tourism, was released in 1992. It was a success, selling over seven million copies. The lead single, "How Do You Do!", was a huge hit, reaching number one in several countries. Other singles from the album included "Queen of Rain", "Almost Unreal" and "Wish I Could Fly". The album was supported by the band's first world tour.

Roxette continued to release albums throughout the 1990s, with Have a Nice Day (1999) being their last. The band has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling pop acts of all time. They have won numerous awards, including three Grammis, three Rockbjörnen, two World Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards and one American Music Award.
