Autograph letter signed, one page, 5 x 8 inch, (Paris), 26.06.1909, in French, to an unknown correspondent - Rolland praises the volume of work his correspondent has done and mentions Christophe*, written and signed in dark ink "Romain Rolland", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a photograph, shows Romain Rolland seated in a chair (altogether 11,75 x 8,25 inch), with a central horizontal mailing fold and very mild signs of wear - in fine to very fine condition.
"Merci de m`aviez envoyé votre volume, Madame, et merci de votre mot de sympathie. Je connaissais déjà ce pauvre petit Elie, pour l`avais lu dans une revue, et j`en avais été très touché. Vous faites oeuvre bonne et saine, et Christophe vous serre cordialement la main.
Veuillez croire, je vous prie, à mes sentiments bien sympathiques - Romain Rolland"
Translated:

* Rolland refers to Christophe, a German musician who is the central character of his work Jean-Christophe (1904-1912), a novel in ten volumes by Rolland for which he received the Prix Femina in 1905, and the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1915.
