Translated:
"Dear Sir,
I am happy to fulfill your kind request for a small fee of 300 marks, which is to be donated to the relief funds of the General German Musicians` Association, provided that the Royal General Directorate and the Symphony Concert Committee of the Royal Orchestra, to whom I am contractually obligated, have no objections to such cooperation. Please liaise with these bodies; if they agree, I am prepared to conduct your concert in the second half of January.
Respectfully, Richard Strauss"
* Our letter, agreeing to conduct a concert in January 1915, was written while Strauss was working on the orchestration for his `An Alpine Symphony` and only two months after he refused to sign a manifesto supporting Germany`s role in World War I.
