In 1935, Stewart got his breakthrough role in the film "The Murder Man." This led to a contract with MGM studios, where he quickly became one of their top actors. He appeared in a string of successful films, including "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" (1939) and "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946).
During World War II, Stewart put his acting career on hold and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He became a decorated war hero, rising to the rank of colonel and flying numerous combat missions. His military service only enhanced his already solid reputation as an all-American hero.
After the war, Stewart resumed his acting career and continued to deliver outstanding performances onscreen. He worked with some of the greatest directors of the time, such as Alfred Hitchcock in "Rear Window" (1954) and "Vertigo" (1958).
Stewart's acting prowess earned him numerous awards and accolades throughout his career, including an Academy Award for Best Actor in "The Philadelphia Story" (1940). He also received an Honorary Academy Award for his contributions to the film industry.
