Autograph letter signed, three pages (on two conjoined sheets), 7,5 x 9,5 inch, Konstanz, 20.04.1805, in old German, to Canon J. Schuler in the collegiate monastery in Bischofszell - concerning the permission to print a manuscript, written and signed in black ink "J. Wessenberg", with expected letter folds - in fine to very fine condition.
"Hochwürdiger Herr Kanonikus!
Werthester Freund!
dero ergebenster Dein Freund
Constanz, d. 20 April 1805 - J. Wessenberg"

"Reverend Canon!
Dearest friend!
A Reformed man from the canton of Zurich, named J. Heinrich Hubmann, wanted to have the enclosed manuscript printed by the local episcopal printer Wegener. But he referred him to me because of the episcopal censorship. Now that I have read the Scripture; so I cannot give permission to distribute it. But since the author, based on the miracle story recorded in the inn, seems to regard it as a prayer enterprise or as a source of money, and would like to be informed in more detail, and he himself assured me that you could give the most reliable information about it; So I ask you to instruct the man properly. In Bishop's name, fictitious miracles are not permitted, the truth of which has not been investigated by the proper authorities - otherwise the use of our Holy Religion for an individual's selfish source of income is also not permitted. By the way, I would like you to inquire more about the circumstances of the search without making the slightest fuss and let me know about it.
With exceptional, true esteem.
your most devoted friend - J. Wessenberg
Constanze, d. April 20, 1805"
