Descripción
Autograph letter signed, four pages (on two sheets - both sides), 5,75 x 7,75 inch, "The Globe Theatre" (London), 16.12.1950, to Mr Greenwood - inter alia concerning the book `The Pipers Inn` (sent by his correspondent), Renee Claire, the film `Mr. Deeds Goes to Town` (1936), and love stories, written and signed in dark ink "Stringer David", with intersecting letter folds, and mild foxing to the last page - in fine to very fine condition.
In parts:
"My wife, Margaret Rutherford, and I thank you very much for sending us `The Pipers Inn` to read. It is not in the least a `Farce` it is a simple country tale told with sincerity and zest and I read it with affection. [...] It is only the greatest artists at moments of inspiration, with all their craft and experience behind them who can pin-point and hold such simplicity for the stage or screen. There must be deep knowledge - style - and just that touch of novelty - slightly ahead of the fashion - which looks so easy when it is done because the art of it is concealed. Then you have a J. M. Barrie a Renee Claire film or a `Mr Deeds goes to town`.
I do not feel that your theme carries sufficient individual creative power to inspire this very high standard of treatment necessary to commend it to the attention of those who make films or plays for my wife. [...]"
