Aleksander Čeferin is a Slovenian lawyer and football administrator, currently serving as the president of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
Born on October 13, 1967, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Čeferin obtained his law degree from the University of Ljubljana in 1991. He then went on to complete a master's degree in international law at King’s College London.
In 2005, Čeferin joined the football club Olimpija Ljubljana as their legal advisor, and quickly rose through the ranks to become the president of the club in 2011. During his tenure, he successfully restructured the club's financial debts and led them to consecutive Slovenian league titles.
Čeferin's growing influence in Slovenian football administration caught the attention of UEFA, and he was elected to the organization's Executive Committee in 2011. In 2016, he was appointed as the President of UEFA, succeeding Michel Platini.
As the head of UEFA, Čeferin has implemented various initiatives to promote fair play, transparency, and financial stability in European football. Additionally, he has been instrumental in the development of women's football, establishing dedicated funding for its growth and organizing the UEFA Women's Champions League.
Under Čeferin's leadership, UEFA has also taken a strong stance against racism and discrimination in football, introducing stricter penalties for such behavior and launching anti-racism campaigns.
