Description
Autograph letter signed, 2 1/2 pages (folded sheet - both sides), 5,5 x 8,5 inch, `Schloss Paulinum` (Palac Paulinum) stationery, Hirschberg (Poland), 9.10.1921, in German, reply letter to Mr. Abbrederis - concerning the defeat in the First World War, written and signed in dark ink "von Kluck", with a horizontal mailing fold, and mild browning - in fine to very fine condition.
In parts:
"Sehr geehrter Herr [...] Abbrederis!
Translated:
"Dear Mr. Abbrederis, [...]!
Your kind letter of the 14th of last month [...] compels me to express my sincere thanks for your remembrance. It is highly commendable that you have arrived at a clear and fair assessment of the military achievements and the collapse in the face of overwhelming superiority, both external and the most dangerous internal enemies. The consequences of the defeat, both economically and psychologically, are utterly devastating and shameful. Therefore, recovery will return when the German people awaken and remember their [...] brilliant achievements in all fields.
Let us hope [...] for the future that German Austria will also be united and that you will witness the fulfillment of this wish. [...]"
Further Information on the person
Profession:
(1846-1934) German general during World War I. With the outbreak of World War I, Kluck was placed in command of the German First Army. According to the Moltke revisions of the Schlieffen Plan, the First Army was part of the strong right wing and positioned on the outer western edge of the German advance through Belgium and France.
Year of Birth: 1846
Alexander von Kluck was a German military officer born on May 20, 1846. He joined the Prussian Army in 1864 and quickly rose through the ranks due to his exceptional leadership skills and tactical abilities.
Von Kluck gained recognition in the military for his performance during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, where he played a key role in several decisive battles.
During World War I, von Kluck was appointed as the commander of the German First Army, leading his troops with strategic precision and determination.
However, von Kluck is most famously remembered for his role in the Battle of the Marne in 1914, where his decision to bypass Paris ultimately led to the failure of the German Schlieffen Plan.
Von Kluck was eventually relieved of his command in 1915 due to his failure at the Battle of the Marne and was reassigned to a less prominent position within the military.
Alexander von Kluck passed away on December 19, 1934, leaving behind a legacy of military service and strategic leadership that continues to be studied and analyzed by historians and military scholars around the world.
