Description
Autograph letter signed, two pages (both sides), 7,75 x 10,25 inch, Vatican, 30.08.1874, in Italian, untranslated, reply letter to "Altezza Reale" (=Royal Highness): the pope condolences on the death of the sister-in-law of Royal Highness "Princess Immaculatina", mentions "Duchess Mary" who has given birth to new children & congratulates her, thanks the holy perfection of the church and says that "hell cannot prevail" as long as the church exists & one should pray to god to give strength to everyone to resist the devil's temptation and this can be achieved with the church and prayer, and at the end of the letter the pope blesses the family of "Royal Highness.", signed in black ink "Pius PP. IX.", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a beautiful portrait picture of of Pope Pius IX (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds and very mild toning - in fine to very fine condition.
