Autograph letter signed, two pages (on two conjoined sheets), 4,5 x 7 inch, Rome, 20.02.1901, in Italian, to Giuseppe Mussi (mayor of Milan) - concerning the celebrations of Verdi's funeral (Verdi died on January 27, 1901), written and signed in black ink "Pietro Mascagni", attractively mounted (removable) for display with a photograph, shows Pietro Mascagni in a head and shoulders portrait (altogether 11,75 x 16,5 inch), with intersecting mailing fold, and as done red crossed out - in fine to very fine condition.

(nella mia qualità di direttore del Liceo Musicale Rossini di Pesaro) un telegramma che avvertiva della semplicità del trasporto funebre in ossequio alla esplicita volontà del grande Estinto. E nello stesso telegramma la S.V. aggiungera che per le solenni onoranze del trigesimo giorno mi sarebbero pervenute le debite istanzioni.Essendo attualmente lontano da Pesaro e non volendo in nessun modo che l’Istituto di Rossini sia secondo ad alcuno nel tributo di devozione alla memoria di Verdi, Le sarei infinitamente grato se volesse farmi pervenire le istruzioni in proposito qui, a Roma - Via Nazionale 82..."

(in my capacity as director of the Liceo Musicale Rossini in Pesaro) a telegram that warned of the simplicity of funeral transport in deference to the explicit will of the great decedent.
