Luis de la Fuente Castillo is a Spanish professional football coach and former player. Born on December 17, 1971, in Burgos, Spain, de la Fuente was known for his performances as a midfielder during his playing career. He began his professional football journey at Mirandés, a Spanish club, where he played for several seasons before moving to Burgos CF.
De la Fuente's talent and dedication soon caught the attention of bigger clubs, and he joined Real Valladolid in 1994. Over the years, he became a key player for the club and helped them achieve promotion to La Liga, the top tier of Spanish football. The midfielder's impressive performances on the pitch didn't go unnoticed, and in 1996, he signed a contract with Real Madrid Castilla, the reserve team of the prominent Real Madrid.
Although de la Fuente never made a first-team appearance for Real Madrid, he continued to have a successful career playing for various Spanish clubs, including CD Numancia and Burgos CF once again. In 2006, he retired as a player and embarked on his coaching career.
De la Fuente's coaching journey started with CD Numancia's youth teams, where he gained valuable experience working with young talents. In 2015, he was appointed as the head coach of Spain's U19 national team and achieved tremendous success, winning the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2015 and 2019.
Due to his remarkable achievements, de la Fuente was promoted to coach Spain's U21 national team in 2018. Under his leadership, the team reached new heights, winning the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2019 and securing their qualification for the 2021 Olympics. His excellent coaching ability and dedication have made him a respected figure in Spanish football.
Currently, Luis de la Fuente Castillo continues to lead Spain's U21 national team, nurturing young talents and preparing them for success at the highest level. His passion for the sport and commitment to developing future stars epitomize his valuable contribution to the world of football.
