Autograph letter signed, one page, 8,5 x 11 inch, `High Flight Foundation` stationery, (Colorado Springs, Colorado), 13.05.1981, reply letter to `Douglas` - inter alia concerning "my present mission", written and signed in black felt tip "Jim Irwin - Apollo 15" - adding a small crescent moon, attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows James Benson "Jim" Irwin as astronaut (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), perforated to the left edge - in fine to very fine condition.

Irwin made his first space flight as a member of the Apollo 15 mission in 1971. He was the Lunar Module pilot for the mission, becoming the eighth person to walk on the moon. Irwin spent a total of three days on the lunar surface, conducting experiments and collecting samples.
After his space mission, Irwin retired from NASA and became a prominent advocate for Christian faith. He founded the High Flight Foundation in 1973, which aimed to spread the message of faith and explore the connection between science and religion.
Throughout his life, Irwin continued to inspire others with his passion for space exploration and his belief in the spiritual significance of the universe. He passed away on August 8, 1991, but his legacy as an astronaut and a visionary lives on.
