Description
Typed letter signed, one page, 6,25 x 8,75 inch, personal letterhead, (Großbothen, Germany), 28.05.1922, in German, to a Doctor - concerning fee demands from Ostwald, written and signed in blue ink "W. Ostwald", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Wilhelm Ostwald in a head and shoulders portrait (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with intersecting letter folds, puncher holes to the left edge, and very mild signs of wear to the edges - in fine condition.
"Sehr geehrter Herr Dr:
Da unter gegenwärtigen Verhältnissen die Angabe einer gewissen Summe in M. illusorisch ist, so halte ich es für allerseits besser, das Honorar vom Ladenpreis abhängig zu machen. Ich beanspruche demgemäss zehn Prozent vom Ladenpreis der verkauften Exemplare und eine einmalige Zahlung von 2000 M. je Bogen bei Ablieferung des Manuskripts. Korrekturen erledige ich gewohnheitsmässig umgehend. Die Abrechnung und Auszahlung hat vierteljährlich zu erfolgen.

As the specification of an amount is illusory in the present circumstances, it is better that the fee is dependent to the shop price. Therefore I demand ten per cent of the shop price on exemplars sold and a one-time payment in the amount of 2000 M. per sheet at delivery of the manuscript. I usually take care of the correctins immediately. The account must be balanced quarterly.
