Charles Bronson was an American actor who was born on November 3, 1921 in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania. He was the 11th of 15 children born to Lithuanian immigrants, John and Mary Bronson. Charles was raised in a coal mining town and was the first of the family to attend college. He initially studied at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, but dropped out after two years when World War II broke out.

Bronson enlisted in the Army Air Forces in 1943. He served as an aerial gunner in the Pacific Theater and was awarded a Purple Heart after being injured in the line of duty. After the war, he returned to the United States and decided to pursue an acting career.

In 1947, Bronson made his film debut in the movie You're in the Navy Now. He went on to appear in a number of films, including The Magnificent Seven and The Great Escape. He also had a successful television career, appearing in such series as The Virginian, The Fugitive, and Man with a Camera.

In 1974, Bronson starred in the classic film Death Wish, which launched him into superstardom. He went on to star in numerous action films, including Mr. Majestyk, Hard Times, and The Mechanic. In the late 1980s, he transitioned to more dramatic roles, appearing in films like 10 to Midnight and Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects.

Throughout his career, Bronson was nominated for several awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the 1972 film The Valachi Papers. He was also honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1983.

Charles Bronson died on August 30, 2003 at the age of 81. He was remembered as one of the most iconic action stars of his generation and his legacy continues to live on through his many films.
