Description
Autograph letter signed, two pages (both sides), 7,75 x 11,75 inch, Paris, 26.03.1876, in French, to an unnamed correspondent - concerning a newspaper report that he had contracted the flu in the salons of His Majesty the King of Hanover, written and signed in black ink "Changarnier", with intersecting letter folds, and a tear (1,25 inch) to the right edge (text unaffected) - in fine condition.
In parts:
Translated:
"If the newspapers, which claim to know everything, say that General Changarnier has contracted the flu in the salons of His Majesty the King of Hanover, they are mistaken, as often happens to them.
I have the flu, acquired I know not where, and accompanied by a fever which, it is said, will hasten my recovery.
For the time being, it keeps me at home.
I have the honor of requesting the aide-de-camp on duty to kindly lay at the feet of His Majesty the King of Hanover the expression of my profound regret [...]"
