Vincenzo Montella is an Italian former professional footballer and football manager, born on June 18, 1974, in Castello di Cisterna, Italy. He spent the majority of his playing career as a forward, known for his speed, technical skills, and goal-scoring ability.
Montella began his professional career with Empoli in 1990, and his impressive performances quickly caught the attention of bigger clubs. In 1995, he joined Serie A giants Sampdoria where he continued to shine, leading him to a move to Roma in 1999.
During his time at Roma, Montella enjoyed his most successful spell as a player. He formed a lethal partnership with Francesco Totti and helped the team to win the Serie A title in 2001. Montella's goal-scoring prowess earned him the nickname "L'Aeroplanino" (The Little Airplane).
After leaving Roma in 2007, Montella went on to play for several clubs including Fulham in England, Sampdoria, and Catania. He retired from professional football in 2009 and transitioned into coaching.
Montella's coaching career started at Roma in 2011 as a caretaker manager before taking on the head coach position the following year. He had successful spells with Fiorentina and later AC Milan, where he led the team to a Supercoppa Italiana victory in 2016.
