Charles Bronson was born on November 3, 1921, in Ehrenfeld, Pennsylvania. His parents were Lithuanian immigrants. He was the 11th of 15 children in his family. Bronson was raised in a strict Catholic household and was expected to become a coal miner like his father. Bronson was a hardworking student and earned a football scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, but due to his family’s financial situation, he could not afford to attend and instead found a job in the coal mines.

Bronson's passion for acting began when he was asked to fill in for an actor in a local theater production. After the performance, the director told Bronson he should pursue a career in acting. He began studying acting in Pittsburgh and then moved to Hollywood in the 1950s. He had to take small roles in B-movies to make ends meet until his breakthrough role in the 1960s.

In the 1960s, Bronson starred in the western movie, The Magnificent Seven, which earned him international acclaim. He followed this success with other westerns such as The Great Escape, Once Upon a Time in the West, and The Dirty Dozen. Bronson was typecast as a tough-guy anti-hero and soon became an iconic action star of the 1960s and 1970s.

In the 1970s, Bronson starred in a series of popular action films such as Death Wish, The Mechanic, and the sequel Death Wish II. He also appeared in several comedies such as The Valachi Papers and Going in Style. Bronson became one of the most recognizable faces in the world and was ranked as one of the top ten box office stars in the world.

In the 1980s, Bronson began to take more serious and dramatic roles in films such as 10 to Midnight and Murphy’s Law. He also starred in a few television movies and miniseries. He continued to appear on the big screen in films such as Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects and Assassination.
