Napoleon III was born Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte on April 20, 1808, in Paris, France. He was the nephew of Napoleon I, who had become emperor of France in 1804. In 1870, Napoleon III waged war against Prussia, resulting in the defeat of the French army at the Battle of Sedan.
