Two autograph letters signed:
1. ALS, two pages (both sides) - with gold-embossed monogram at head, 4 x 6,75 inch, undated, in German, Johann Strauss II invites an unnamed friend to a ball at the Nationalhotel, written and signed in black ink "Johann Strauss", with horizontal mailing folds, and mild soiling - in fine condition.
In parts:
"Lieber Freund!
Wie Sie wissen, findet Montag im Nationalhotel ein sehr schöner Ball statt. Ich habe den Auftrag, Sie auf denselben zu invitiren, und bitte Sie an unserem Tisch Platz zu nehmen. Meine Schwägerin, Netti Eduard etc. freuen sich, mit Ihnen zu tanzen [...]"
Translated:
"Dear Friend!
As you know, a very lovely ball is taking place on Monday at the Hotel National. I have been commissioned to invite you to it and ask you to take a seat at our table. My
sister-in-law, Netti, Eduard, etc., look forward to dancing with you [...]"
2. ALS, two pages (card - both sides) - with gold-embossed monogram at head and original envelope, 4,25 x 7 inch, undated, in German, to composer and conductor Eduard Kremser (1838-1914) - concerning a performance idea contrasting old Vienna through Johann Strauss the elder with new Vienna through Johann Strauss junior, written and signed in black ink "Johann Strauss", with stains andbroken in the central horizontal fold - in nearly fine condition. Accompanied by a handwritten English translation.
In parts:
"Lieber Eduard!
[...] Was sagen Sie zu meiner Idee, Alt-Wien durch meinen seligen Vater zu vertreten und Neu Wien durch meine Wenigkeit. Es kämen daher 2 (u.z. die ersten) Walzer von weiland Johann Str. und die letzten 2 von Johann Str. junior. Wie dieses junior mir wohl thut – kann ich Ihnen nicht schildern [...]"
Translated:
"Dear Eduard!
[...] What do you say to my idea of having Old Vienna represented by my late father and New Vienna by yours truly? Thus, there would be 2 (specifically, the first) waltzes by the late Johann Str. and the last 2 by Johann Str. Junior. I cannot describe to you how good that 'Junior' makes me feel [...]"

1 printed death notice from the Society of the Friends of Music in Vienna (`Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde`) marking the "passing of their / honorary member / the composer Mr. / Johann Strauss" (Vienna, June 4, 1899), 1 autograph letter signed by his wife Adele; to the actor Wilhelm Klitsch, enclosing suggestions for poems (n.p., 1913), 1 autograph picture postcard signed by his stepdaughter Alice Epstein-Strauss; to a gentleman regarding an appointment (Vienna, 1910; illus.: Brahms and Strauss on a balcony), as well as
4 printed visiting cards with autograph additions by his brother Eduard Strauss.
