Profession:
(1901-1988) Soviet politician who briefly led the Soviet Union after Joseph Stalin's death in 1953.
Year of Birth: 1902
Georgy Malenkov was born on January 8, 1902, in Orenburg, Russia. He was a Soviet politician who served as the Premier of the Soviet Union from 1953 to 1955. Malenkov was a close associate of Joseph Stalin and played a key role in the politics of the Soviet Union during the post-World War II period.
Malenkov joined the Bolshevik Party at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of the Soviet government. He held various positions in the government, including head of the propaganda department, before eventually becoming Premier in 1953.
During his time as Premier, Malenkov focused on economic reform in the Soviet Union. He implemented various policies aimed at improving the country's industrial production and living standards for its citizens. However, his tenure was short-lived, as he was forced to resign in 1955 amid political infighting within the Communist Party.
After his resignation, Malenkov was sidelined from politics and eventually expelled from the Communist Party in 1961. He lived out the rest of his life in relative obscurity until his death on January 14, 1988, in Moscow, Russia.
Despite his contributions to the Soviet Union, Georgy Malenkov remains a controversial figure in Russian history, with some viewing him as a loyal servant of Stalin and others as a reformer who was ousted by his political rivals.
