Letter signed, one page (with blind-embossed seal), 8,75 x 5,5 inch, Berlin, 28.10.1859, in old German, Frederick III of Prussia thanks for birthday wishes, signed in black ink "Friedrich Wilhelm P", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Frederick III of Prussia in a beautiful chest-up portrait in uniform (altogether 11,75 x 16,5 inch), with a central vertical letter fold, mild foxing, and signs of wear to the edges - in nearly fine condition.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nikolaus Karl, better known as Frederick III, was born on October 18, 1831 in Potsdam, Prussia. He was the eldest son of Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
Frederick III was educated at the University of Bonn and later joined the Prussian army, eventually rising to the rank of General in the cavalry. He was known for his progressive ideas and liberal views, which set him apart from his conservative family.
In 1858, Frederick III married Victoria, Princess Royal of the United Kingdom, who was the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. The couple had eight children, including Wilhelm II, who would later become the last German Emperor.
Frederick III ascended to the throne of Prussia in March 1888, following the death of his father, Emperor Wilhelm I. However, his reign was tragically short-lived, as he was diagnosed with terminal throat cancer shortly after becoming Emperor.
Despite his illness, Frederick III attempted to implement political reforms and improve relations with other European powers. He was a supporter of democracy and sought to modernize the German government.
Frederick III passed away on June 15, 1888, just 99 days after becoming Emperor. Despite his brief reign, he left a lasting impact on German history, remembered for his progressive ideals and efforts to bring about change in the face of adversity.
