描述
Autograph letter signed, one pages, 8 x 11 inch, 18.11.1931, to "Lin" - concerning the term `Jihadi`, which appeared in his 1926 mystery novel `The Secret Listeners of the East`, written and signed by Dhan Gopal Mukerji in dark ink "D. G. Mukerji", with intersecting letter folds, and mild signs of wear to the edges - in fine condition. Accompanied by a (unsigned) vintage glossy photograph of the author, 4 x 6 inch.
"Dear Lin,
The word Jehadi that appears in The Secret Listeners of the East is derived from the word Jehad - Holy War of Islam. Jehadi is a crusader of Islam.
The book Secret Listeners of the East is based on reports of the British Police officers who were engaged in British India during 1918-21 to track down Mohammadan nationalists of the violent school. Whether any secret society was named Jehadi I do not know.
Sincerely yours - D. G. Mukerji"
